From Jessica: Notes From Jessica I had reached the amphitheater about an hour before the show. The Pompano Beach Amphitheater seats about 3,000 and I was so surprised at how small and quaint it was. I found my seat (Section B, Row 5, Seat 15; pretty damn awesome view) and began talking to the girl in front of me. Time passed and 8:00 rolled around and so did the rain. It began to pour so people rushed the stage before the show began to keep dry, but we were turned back. Anyway, I had brought Fiona a small teddy bear that I have had for a couple of years now and attached to it was a little note stating how great I think she is and what a difference she's made in my life. I did get to give my teddy bear to the security guy who placed it upon Fi's piano (yay!) Mr. Eel himself (lol) came out and played his set. He wasn't so bad. When he asked for heroine, though, it was a bit questionable. I don't think he was kidding. Another 15 minutes went by and then the lights dimmed and Fi came out in the infamous black drawstring skirt and pink/black tube top. On the Bound started playing and everyone rushed down to the stage. The energy in the air was amazing. Rain or not, it was going to be a kickass show. I stood there, dancing, singing, gyrating, and all the while keeping my eyes on Fiona. The look of intensity on her face was amazing, and every now and again she would look over to Keith who would give her a reassuring smile. She talked a bit to the audience, saying that it was so hot and she seemed surprised that we were still there out in the rain. You guys all know the set list, no need to reiterate, but every damn song was amazing. The feel of the drums (Matt played his ass off tonight) and the bass, the booming in the air, I could feel it in my chest, pulsating as my body writhed and swayed to the beat of the music. Needless to say, the show was beautiful. She came out for the encore, which was again amazing, and said that we were all so fucking great. It was true. The crowd was pretty incredible. Everyone was either standing down by the stage or in the aisles or on top of chairs. As far as I know, nobody was rowdy or obnoxious; there were a couple of pot smokers, but that's expected. The energy shared between Fi and the audience was pure and true. Watching her move and sing and put her heart and soul into every song is pure artistry at its best. When Fi left the stage, she grabbed my teddy bear and another one from the piano and left. After the show, the rain started to pour again, but it didn't matter. As I was climbing up the stairs to leave, I was dancing and humming to the song "What a Wonderful World." I waited outside for Fi and didn't see her, but I did get to have Keith sign my stub. He's a cool guy. This was probably one of the best nights of my life. I can't believe that I actually got to see her live in all of her truth and sincerity. This was actually my first ever concert...hmmmm what a wonderful memory. Jessica A.

From Alex: Let me just say I'm still getting over last night! That was one of the best and funnest experiences of my life! unfortunately, i wasnt able to meet Fiona, but the concert was totally worth it! hopefully in the future i'll get the chance to meet her. here's a review of my night:
I arrived at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre at around 6:00 PM and found a group of Fiona fans waiting outside the backstage. I joined up with them and we all were waiting to see Fiona come out. I was kind of pissed cause they told me Fiona had just gone into the theatre to do soundcheck a minute before! well anyways, we saw Fiona go back and forth from the bus to the stage but she was going so fast that we didnt have time to scream her name. Little by little more and more fans started showing up (shout out to Guille, Sarah, Kris, Adam, Courtney, Kerrie, Barry and everybody else!!!) and we all were just hanging out hoping to catch a glimpse of Fiona. This nice girl was passing out some free smashing pumpkins tapes and SP stickers and some tapes for other groups which I thought was really nice! Well, surprise surprise, the security came out and made us move across the street because were weren't allowed near the backstage. We waited for about an hour and Fiona hadn't come out of her tour bus for a while and we were all really hungry so we all decided to go to our seats to get ready for the concert. About half an hour passed and then Mark Everett, the lead singer from the Eels, came out and started to perform. It kinda sucked cause none of the other guys from the Eels were there, but he still did an awesome performance!
After his set, we waited for about 5 or 10 minutes and then it started to rain! everybody ran under the stage so they wouldnt get wet and it was pouring! after about 10 minutes, they told us that Fiona wouldn't come out if we didnt sit down so we all ran back to our seats. Sure enough, about 5 minutes later Fiona came on stage!!! Of course, everybody went nuts! Fiona came onstage and then everybody rushed to the area in front of the stage. She started to play On The Bound and everybody went crazy of course and everybody was singing along and it was great! people were standing on their chair's dancing and singing and screaming and it was just awesome! I must have screamed "I LOVE YOU FIONA" about 10 times through the whole show!
Fiona's performance was amazing! She put so much emotion into all the songs and she truly rocked the house! Mere words could not express how awesome the show was! Fiona kept saying "are you guys hot? I'm sweating up here but you guys are so awesome, staying through the rain and everything" and she was just so nice. She performed the usual setlist and she did the 2 encore performances of "Just One Of Those Things" and "Kissing My Love"! I especially loved "Kissing My Love"!!!! It was awesome!! After that, she picked up all the presents people gave her from the audience and she said good bye and walked off the stage.
After the show me and the
friends that I met up with went to the back where the backstage door was to try one more time to see if Fiona would come out. After staying out for like 20 minutes, the whole group of security people came up to us and told us to leave and that Fiona would not be coming out to sign stuff because she was going to get on the bus and leave. We didnt believe them so we stayed across the street but unfortunately, it started to rain, and hard, so we knew that the chances of Fiona coming out were very slim. So me and my
friend decided to go home cause we were dead tired from having so much fun the whole night. I have to say that this concert was one of the best experiences of my whole life. Calling Fiona's performance amazing is an understatement. The whole experience was incredible and I highly doubt any other concerts I go to will live up to this one.

From
Andre:
Just wanted to let you know that
I attended the show on April 15th at Pompano Amphitheater.
She and the band looked like they were having alot of fun which made for an awesome show. Props go out to Matt Chamberlain , does that guy have a home? He seems to be perpetually on tour, I made sure I cheered extra loud for him when Fi introduced the band, he's an awesome drummer.
In regards to the set list, I honestly don't remember her playing Love Ridden, but like I said it seemed like a dream so maybe I just dont remember. Ok here's where I get preachy but I feel I really need to comment about the audience, in honor of Fiona speaking out at the MTV awards, I'm going to take this chance to say how I feel. I have to say that this crowd was a great group for the most part, one of the best crowds I've been in since Tori's sneak preview club tour. It was cool to see some familiar faces. I only had a few problems, one was a couple of people who felt that they needed to get drunk and hassle the guards, and also to talk to friends on their cell phone screaming at the top of their lungs, during the show. I was there to hear Fiona not your phone conversation. Secondly, Please Fiona Fans , I beg of you, leave your non-Fiona fan friends home. There were people in the crowd screaming just for the sake of screaming, and then wanted to drag their Fiona fan friend to the bathroom before the encore, and I even heard the guy mention something about Fiona's nipples. Please people grow up and not ruin it for those of us who came to see the show, if you don't appreciate Fiona's wonderful music, please stay home. Also, to those of you female Fiona fans, please leave your non-Fiona-fan-boyfriends at home. I kills me to see these guys just standing there with looks of confusion, who clearly only came because their girlfriends dragged them there. These guys stand there in prime Fiona viewing space with their arms around their girlfriends, which is fine but when these guys are over 6 feet tall, those of us behind you just can't see, so please be courteous to that person who is hopping up and down behind you trying to see because I'm sure, that unlike yourself, they really want to be there to see Fiona. Anyway, other than those few problems, I had a wonderful time and Fiona was just magical. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, i don't mean to sound like a jerk, I am just speaking on the behalf of the true Fiona fans everywhere and for any of those who couldn't get a ticket because they were bought for the non-Fiona fans. Thanks for hearing me out. Thanks NIAP.

From
Rob:
so i had never seen fiona
apple before in concert; and during the day, i thought i would not be
able to go (for a number of reasons - i had trouble finding a way to get
there, i left the tickets at home when i did find a ride, and a
bunch'o'stuff). anyway - im really glad i got to go. me and my friend
bjorn got there during The Eels which got me pretty confused since it
was only one guy... but i figured there was no band on tour or something
like that (i had only heard one song by the eels, and im not even sure
if it was by them... all i remember is a talking carrot in the video)
but the guy behind us explained that there Is a full band... the eel
wasn't bad. he was pretty cool... so anyway, like the other reviews say,
it started pouring after that... luckily, we had a poncho, but that
didn't help much having to share it between two people. everyone is up
by the stage covering themselves in the little piece of roof that was
there, so me and bjorn go to the back and find these two girls under this umbrella that was there (for
decoration or a concession stand or something) so we ask them if we can
scood in and we do for a while, but are still getting pretty wet. then
this other girl and some guy get in and we were pretty crowded.
eventually we go back to our seats and bjorn gets his own poncho from the same guy behind us that was
only using it to cover his beer... so bjorn gave the guy a plastic
covering he had from my poncho. and i forgot to say, we were in section
B, row 17. so fiona came on and some people were walking to the stage,
so we go rush the stage too... and we end up by the 4th row. On the
Bound was awesome... fiona kept laughing while she was singing. and the
couple next to us kept dancing... but it wasn't annoying or anything...
they were really nice and fun. Limp was really good! i went wild after
matt's solo... i mean, matt is tori's drummer... that means he rocks...
i saw him in august with tori and he just rocked! and sometime in
between the whole set she introduced the band... but i only yelled for
matt... he was the only one i knew, to tell you the truth. (oh, and for whomever wrote that they didn't remember Love
Ridden... neither do i.) and for some reason, i had it stuck in my head
that fiona doesn't do Get Gone... so i got excited when that one came
on. and after the second song or something, fiona is saying how hot it
was and how she thanks us for being in the rain... then the thing about
taking some tequilla which she says she rarely does before the show, so
if anything funny happens today, you'll know why. (somethinglikethat).
And there were some pot smokers next to us... and i love the smell of
pot at concerts! i think it's just a part of it. We also eventually had
3-word conversations with the people next to us. And there was this one
guy who kept shouting "I Love You Fiona!" (im pretty sure he
was the one that wrote the review). and there was some lady dancing on a
chair that looked like one of my grandmothers. So.. what else? Fast as
You Can rocked!!! everyone was going nuts when fiona would start
dancing! i really like how she dances. i think people went most wild for
Get Gone and Limp... but that's probably only cause those were my favorite of the
night. Oh yeah, and during Sleep to Dream, she couldn't quite dance
right at the end cause she was trying to pick up her hair... and man,
did she look good! the guy next to us kept calling her a "sexy
thang." To Your Love was powerful! how she sings that song is
amazing. and for the first encore, she comes out and puts her hands on
her hips and kinda sways her hips... it was really cute. and the last
encore was super amazing and powerful! and then she left... o well. she
was really good and i enjoyed the show a whole lot more than i thought i
would! it didn't rain much During the show... which was good. but
everyone was wet anyway... and fiona kept complaining about how hot it
was. oman! and those dances she does... those rock! ok so after that we
walk to the place we were supposed to meet bjorn's mom and it was 10.15
and his mom wasn't picking us up till 11. so we had plenty of time and
we see this group of people standing around where we were supposed to
get picked up and they were hoping that fiona would come out and say hi.
so we decide to just stay there... and we get to talk to a few people,
one which said that fiona had taken her teddy bear and had the SPIN
magazine with her and then her friends who had the cd... they were nice
people. (you know, we didn't get anyone's name or email that we met...
we just talked. that's kinda weird, we didn't even ask for their name).
then the security came and told us we were on private property and had
to cross the street so we do. and i overhear this girl talking to her
friend about the tori show so i ask her if she saw tori and she said
yeah and then i told her i did too and we just kinda talked for a while.
and then the rain came back... this time twice as hard as twice as cold.
me and bjorn give one of the ponchos to the two girls we met and we have
to share one... and man that rain was cold!!! and its not easy to share
a cheap poncho you get their at the arena... and it went on for a
while... and eventually we saw fiona leave the place and get on her bus
from pretty far; or at least we think it was her... so we go back to the
other side of the street but it was too late and the security is telling
us to leave and then the buses leave... o well. i wasn't expecting to
meet her anyway... and with the rain, even less. so then there were
still a few people remaining... including me, bjorn, and the two girls.
eventually the two girls leave and there are maybe 5 or 6 people left
and then finally bjorn's mom gets there and we can leave.

From
Monica:
WOW! what an amazing night. she was so beautiful and the show rocked! her voice was so strong, the sound was awesome, and the crowd couldn't have been better. i was disappointed that we weren't allowed to wait for her after the show, but the security guards were at least friendly and "just doing their jobs" so to speak. she was happy and perky and spoke to the audience quite a bit. her dancing was beautiful and she just seemed so real. one thing about the set list though- she did not perform "love ridden". i paid special attention and am 100% sure that she did not, because i love that song and was a little disappointed not to hear it. anyways, the show was unbelievable and it was a night i'll remember for a very long time! -monica

From Ruth:
What can you say about something that was so wonderful? I was lucky enough to have a seat in the second row. It was fortunate because it blocked out the rain and gave me the perfect view. A few times my eyes met Fiona's and you could see her eyes welling up fighting back tears, but she wasn't the only one...I had to remind myself to breathe and then the tears flowed freely from my eyes. The show was at once happy and playful yet at moments sad and moving. Bittersweet. I loved Fiona's ironic contrast of deep sexual passion and dark sexual anger that filled the room. It was hard not to feel a mix of fascination and slight discomfort that forced intimacy brings (especially during get gone). But, the most touching parts of the show for me were the songs in which Fiona played the piano. I relish the way Fiona connects with her piano and then with the audience--it always gives me the chills. Two hours have never passed by so quickly, one beautiful favorite song after another... After the show I was left feeling content and full (and a little wet), but like I couldn't wait to start listening all over again. I cannot wait to see the shows in LA. Cheers, Ruth
