From Pon:

"It was so awesome. Sorry if some of my following words offend anyone who likes singing during concerts or taking lots of flash pictures or running up on stage to give the performer something. (but geez, you shouldn't do that)

The group that opened for her was Jurassic 5, and though I'm not really into that kind of music (hip-hop rap stuff), they were entertaining.

I remember what Fiona played but not the order she played it in. But, she played everything from When The Pawn; Criminal, Sullen Girl, Carrion (that really rocked), Sleep To Dream; and encored with two covers, neither of which I know. One of them used the line "When I Kiss My Love" a lot so it might be called that.. it was fast and cool. The other was old sounding and jazzy and it was like a karaoke number. haha. But they were both cool, and she displayed a wider vocal range here than I usually see from her.

She seemed really happy, and nervous. She was wearing a skirt-pants thing.. don't know how to describe it. you know those things where it's like a skirt with a slit up each leg, and pants underneath. But that was black. and then she had a reddish tank top thing. She did plenty of Fiona dancing. She was very energetic, and she was goofy when she talked. She jumped around a lot. hehe. and she even kind of danced while she was playing piano, like moving her legs around. At the end of "Paper Bag", during the instrumental part after she sings the chorus the last time, she got up from the piano and danced around. it was cool.

One thing that sucked was that there was a lot of mic feedback. It was bad, happened 5 or 6 times, from Jurassic 5 and Fiona. And Fiona apologized because there was no souvenir stand for her, so no t-shirts. :( I was all set to buy one, too.

The songs don't sound much different live from how they do on the albums, but there was so much energy and it was fun watching her perform. I had some good seats, much better than my Ani seats where I could barely see her. Ooh and the theater let us bring refreshments into the auditorium so we ate nachos in there while waiting for the concert to start.

Kids, don't sing along during concerts unless the singer asks you to. It's really annoying. It might be fun for you but the rest of us pay to hear Fiona sing, not you. Dance around, whatever. just don't interfere with everyone else's hearing of the music. Why go to see Fiona perform if you're just going to block her out with your own voice? grr. And one person kept taking pictures. I mean, fine, take one even though you're not supposed to. But this person's camera had a bright flash and she must've taken at least 5 pictures while she was performing. and she was in my row. I gave her an evil eye and she didn't take any after that. haha. Oh god, and at the very end after Fiona bowed this girl ran up onto the stage and gave her flowers. I wanted to slap that girl. Sure she didn't have bad intentions, but Fiona has no way of knowing that and Fiona saw the girl coming and just froze. I can't believe security didn't stop her. I hope they caught her afterwards. That was just not cool.

But, it was an awesome concert. Fiona was cool. The miking could've been better but it was okay. But I wanted a t-shirt dammit."

From Nicole:

Hi guys,

A little late getting this review in, but being a groupie is a tiring job! Anyway, I was reading the other reviews and they've already covered what she wore and little nuances here and there, so all I can really say now is my personal feelings. I did send in some pics that I took during the show. I know that many of you are bitching about people taking pictures during the show, and I don't normally do it either, but I had my camera with me, in order to take pics after the show, and the security sucked so bad there, that I did take some.

I do wish I knew how to turn off my flash, but I didn't at the time. I just know that some of you who are international fans or those who haven't seen her yet would appreciate seeing some pics from the show. The only bad part is that I didn't bring a zoom camera, so even though I was 4th row, it looks far. Oh well, hope you enjoy them anyway.

Regarding the show, which I think is most important, not all this bitching and ranting about who's doing what and who's pissing off whom like I'm hearing. Fiona really outdid herself with this show. She was so much more energetic than I have ever seen her!  Every chance she had, she was jumping around or talking to us or flailing her arms around. It was so infectious! She was soooo happy to be performing for her fans again. She always worries about her stage banter, but we don't care what she says, we're just happy to be there, and we love her no matter what! I read in one review that she doesn't sound much different live than on the cd's, but I totally disagree. They are similar in that she is wonderful, but otherwise, she changes things up all the time in the songs and I love that! It's my favorite thing about seeing her live. I'm always curious as to how she's going to change things up every time. For example, the moans etc... in songs like Sleep to Dream and Criminal are all different. Also, the part where she repeats "To your love" over and over is very different, obviously, since she has her voice singing in two different parts at one time on the cd, but you get my drift.  I absolutely and completely loved "Carrion". You wouldn't know that one would be so kick-ass live, but it really rocks the house! It was awesome on the first tour too. I am also partial to "Get Gone" and she ripped that one also! I must also give an honorable mention to "Sullen Girl" and "Love Ridden", which were both beautiful and moving. This is not to say in any way that isn't fabulous with every other song also, but just wanted to say which ones had the biggest impact on me that night. Fi's lighting job was also great. She deserves special praise for her idea to have the light come from behind her during the Cole Porter cover song. It's a gorgeous song and we were not able to see her face so it helps to really focus on her voice, her amazing and touching voice. I also loved how she kind of slid across the stage during the guitar part in the beginning of Bill Withers' song. She moved her feet in such a way (think Jackson moonwalk, but also don't think that) that she appeared to slide from one side of the stage to the other during a funky guitar section. I do have to say, since I'm writing this after I've seen the Boston show too, that in comparing them, I know that the sound for this show was not that great. The mic feedback, and the venue itself didn't lend itself well to the sound quality. Something with the speakers maybe too, I don't know. Just definitely not as clear. Oh yeah, Jurassic 5 was surprisingly entertaining also. You won't feel yourself bored stiff waiting for Fiona to come out, as I've experienced before. They're really cool and fun. Well, to put an end to this, I do have to say "Thank You With All My Heart" to Dave and Nan for bringing me backstage to meet Fiona. I am forever grateful and I love you. I had the time of my life meeting Fiona and I have to say how completely genuine and wonderful she is. She has this aura around her that is full of such wonderful energy, you can't help but fall in love all over again with the girl. It also felt very special because me and Fi are about the same age and we're both tiny and have a similar sense of humor it seemed, so I was really comfortable around her. I had all the gifts for her and the flowers that day for her in my car, but I didn't know I would be going backstage, so I didn't bring them in yet. I was going to go and get them after and give them to her outside her bus, so I just gave them to her in Boston the next night. It was a joke that was going on. I told Fi I had stuff for her in my car, and she said for me to give them to her the next day then, and I told her the roses would be dead then, and she said she didn't care cause she would just press them. But they stayed fresh in my car for the next 24 hours believe it or not! Anyway, I am definitely done now with this review. Off to write a Boston review. Thanks for reading. ---Nicole ( p.s. please don't bug Dave and Nanikita with requests to bring you backstage, that's not how it works. And please realize that doing that is rude. They provide enough wonderful stuff for everyone with their website and hard work!)

---Nicole

From Megan:

I guess I should put in a few words.  :)  I went to Fiona Apple's opening show in Wallingford, CT--two words:  IT ROCKED.

I went with 4 other friends whom I introduced Fiona's music to
way back when.  The night before, a LOT of bad shit went down between mainly 2 of them....so I was really really worried that 1) I wouldn't be able to go to the show or 2) if I did get to the show, I'd have those 2 bitching all night.  ::sigh::  So, I think it showed that I was worried and they realized that they needed to act their age--at least for this night, hehe.  To shorten this up, my friends behaved themselves :)

Jurassic 5 opened up, as you know by now I'm sure.  They were pretty cool--I kinda liked how it was like they were freestyling--maybe they really were..  and the breakdancing bit by the guy with the braids was too cool.

I was so excited when Fiona and her magnificent (and I do mean that, they rock just as much) band took the stage--especially when Fiona jumped up and down excitedly.

SIDE NOTE:  Happy late birthday to Amber (Fiona's sister) and Jebin ( I am pretty sure it was Jebin's birthday on the 23rd...???).

I will admit, I did sing once.... I had to...it was necessary.  It was just one part in CRIMINAL, when Fiona sings "what would an angel say, the devil wants to know......"  One of my friends who was with me, her and I have a special connection between us, and our love for Fiona, just with that one line.  So, that was a good moment for us. :)

Fiona totally ripped CARRION...she put sooooo much into...it
was so ... WOW.  She put so much emotion into her voice, like when she sang "carrion"  she made her voice deep and had that flare to it (you probably dont know what I mean). She put a lot into everything she sang...but oh man, she just did such a kick ass job on this.  All throughout the concert, Fiona seemed very content and relaxed and confident.  Why shouldn't she have been??!!  She has the coolest and cutest voice!!

I would also like to admit, I had a camera with me at the Oakdale.  How can you resist when they don't check for them at the doors?

I would now like to take the time to give some thanks:  Matt Chamberlain, Jebin Bruni, Lucky Lockwood, Keith Lowe, and Joe Simon...the tour band.  Love you to death for touring with Fiona--you're all extremely talented and wonderful.  And I don't remember which one of you it was--but whoever had on the black fedora-ish hat (now that I think about it, I think 2 of you had fedora-ish hats on)...those hats were very very stylin.  nice touch!  Fiona Apple, OF COURSE!, for sharing her music and time with us (especially on her sister's birthday!).  You put on such a great show--I will NEVER forget it.  And of course, David and Nanikita--neverisapromise.com is just tooo great. Thank you for taking the time and dedicating yourself to making such a beautifully artistic website in honor of Fiona Apple.  YOU ROCK!
