Navarro Explains Bloody Note To Fiona Apple

Dave Navarro says that he's surprised that anyone is shocked that he scrawled a friendly message for Fiona Apple in his own blood on the wall of Apple's dressing room before last weekend's annual KROQ Christmas show.

As we first reported on Monday in the MTV News Gallery, Navarro showed his appreciation for the singer by writing, "Fiona, have fun.  Love, DN" on the wall of her dressing room before he took the stage with the rest of Jane's Addiction.

One day after our report, Navarro explained his actions.

"I truly believe that the music Fiona courageously shares with the world comes from the beauty and pain that flows from within her heart," Navarro told MTV News in verbiage that closely echoed a written statement released by Jane's record label, Warner Bros.

"I simply chose to thank her for her honesty by leaving her a little note that comes from the beauty and pain that flows from my heart... literally," Navarro said.

Navarro's comments and the statement from Warner Bros. are just the latest over-the-top gushings to come from the guitarist over Apple.  The ball got rolling earlier this month when Navarro called the group's appearance with Apple at the KROQ show the "hot spot" of the Jane's reunion tour.
